Head of Markets and Security Services for Africa


Business Overview:

Markets and Securities Services (MSS) Africa is a material business cluster within EMEA Markets. The MSS business comprises of Rates and Currencies, Equities and Securities Services, Global Spread Products, Commodities and Local Markets Treasury.

The MSS Africa cluster geographic responsibility includes all the countries where Citi operate across the African continent.

The Head of MSS for Africa will report to the Head of MSS for CEEMEA

Key role Responsibilities:

The Head of MSS for Africa is a senior level position responsible for leading and implementing a fully integrated Markets and Securities business strategy for Africa, in coordination with the Global Products and Regional management teams. The role is responsible for:

Leading a diverse team of c. 80 professionals across the region
Proposing and supporting the execution of our overall MSS client strategy (origination, execution, risk) across segments: Corporates, Public Sector, Banking and Non-Banking Financial Institutions, coordinating with the CCO, Banking, Independent Risk and Finance, while also monitoring and managing the various Markets risk taking activities performed in the countries through the dedicated specialists (Equities, Credit, Commodities, FX and Rates traders, and Market Treasury managers).
Managing the senior level MSS related local Regulatory relationships, maintaining a sound risk & controls environment and fostering a culture of inclusion, transparency, strong governance and compliance.
Driving a revenue growth strategy to reflect the market opportunities on the continent, leveraging Citi’s global and local entities’ capabilities
Leading and implementing country business strategy:

Developing a coordinated country strategy across the Markets and Securities Services products to ensure optimal client alignment
Managing senior external interfaces with Markets related Regulators, market data, and industry groups, peers
Represent the Markets and Securities Services franchise throughout Citi
Drives client value by leading reviews of resource allocation and prioritization for country and cross product business initiatives
Maximises organizational execution of key initiatives and business review processes
Leading strong governance and controls:

Creates appropriate governance, controls and compliance including a culture of expense management discipline
Builds a culture of responsible finance
Works in close partnership with control functions to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure
Ensures close partnership with Compliance to lead productive interaction and dialogue with key regulators
Ensures partnership with Finance to deliver the annual financial planning / budgeting process
Leads across products to facilitate optimal resource allocation decision making by product and client segments
Human Capital Management:

Leads the Markets and Securities Services, SA People Strategy including talent reviews for critical roles
Partners with HR and regional product heads to ensure the people strategy and organizational capabilities are aligned to business strategy
Ensures cross-product oversight and governance of headcount, hiring and workforce planning
Provides direction and oversight of talent processes that underpin our meritocratic and high performance culture, including; compensation, promotion, junior talent pipeline (MAs, Analysts & Associates), internal mobility, talent reviews and succession planning
Experience, skills and capabilities:

Integrity, credibility and gravitas to lead, motivate and influence a diverse population across products and matrixed reporting lines
Strategic thinker with ability to translate a vision into execution, and monetise commercial opportunities
In depth experience of Markets and Securities Services clients, risk management and products suite incl. Equities, FX, FXO, Interest and FX Derivatives, Credit and Commodities
Successful track record of creating momentum and leading a collective agenda across multiple products towards a strong client service strategy
Leadership skills and intellectual capability to bring together a broad range of stake holders in a teamwork environment
Interpretive and problem solving skills; pragmatic approach to ensure limited resources are directed appropriately
Good interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence and create alignment at senior levels across multiple products, clients, and competing priorities
Good knowledge of emerging countries, with the ability to anticipate and lead the organizational response to future changes

Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
Master’s degree preferred
Candidates applying for this role must be aware that it is a Certified Function Role, subject to the FCA and PRA Certification Regime.

The Certification Regime is one element of the Individual Accountability Regime which came into effect on 7 March 2016.

In order to comply with the requirements of the Certification Regime, Citi entities must take reasonable care to ensure that an employee does not perform a Certified Role without first being certified as Fit and Proper. For this reason, you will be assessed for this role against the Fit and Proper requirements, as described above.

This assessment will be carried out through extensive interviews, self-disclosures, permitted criminal record checks, regulated reference checks, credit checks and other background screening checks.
