About the job:

The CSIR has a vacancy for a Firmware and Embedded Software Engineer in the Radar and Electronic Warfare Impact Area. The vacancies are in the EW Groups which integrates the capabilities for conceptualization, development and supply of specialised radar test and evaluation equipment. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of world-class high-speed digital hardware, firmware and embedded software for high speed digital hardware.  The position is located in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

Develop (design, layout and firmware development) of high-speed digital modules for advanced EW scenario simulators;
Develop (design, layout and firmware development) control, interface and signal distribution modules for advanced hardware-in-loop facilities;
Layout PC boards for Radio Frequency designs;
Assemble, debug, set-to-work and testing of hardware;
Support procurement of components;
Provide configuration control and version management of designs, layout and manufacturing files;
Administer mentor graphics licenses for Impact Area.
Qualifications, skills and experience:

A Bachelor of Engineering in electronic / Computer engineering with at least two years’ experience in the following:High speed digital and mixed signal hardware design/PC Boards;
Debugging hardware;
Firmware and embedded software development;
An Honours or Master’s degree in the relevant field will be advantageous;
Must have the following skills/training:Formal / Informal Altium Training;
Formal / Informal Mentor Graphics Training;
Formal / Informal VHDL Training;
Formal / Informal Embedded Software Training;
Multiple operating systems;
Proven capability of document preparation.
