Key Purpose


Partners with one or more Business Area owners and ensures that business application requirements are implemented effectively and efficiently to realise business objectives, including the definition of business process needs, consideration of alternative sources, review of technological and economic feasibility, implementation and monitoring of business applications.  Identifies, prioritises, specifies and agrees business functional and technical requirements covering the full scope of application initiatives required to achieve the expected outcomes. Ensuring that the application remains adaptive to emergent business needs, including changes required to the nature of the enterprise’s business, business processes, people skills, resources and competencies, organisation structure, and enabling technology. Applying development management technologies and methodologies such as Application Life Cycle Management (ALM) e.g. Agile, Waterfall or other pattern, practices and development frameworks.



Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to


Ensuring alignment to business requirements, and building trust by displaying managerial competence.
Ownership of activities in and the improvement of the SDLC, PM or ITIL processes
Ensuring adherence to Quality, SLA and PM standards.
Ensures that the technical Application capacity exists for a particular set of systems that support a set of business functions.
Utilizing commercial awareness and understanding of how systems delivery impact business results to take action to improve business results.
Coaching of team members for performance, and coaching on management, leadership and career development
Understanding future business requirements, business systems and process context, impact and risks.
Identifying stakeholders that need to be considered in the specification phase.
Participating in MANCO, planning/strategy sessions, reporting
Acting as Consultant to the Business
Participating and enabling the business prioritization process
Preventing technical issues from arising by proactive management
Conducting forecasts, sizing and estimates on delivery initiatives and plans.
Managing of vendors that supply specialized services
Ensures that human capacity exists in the teams and leaders being managed
Recruitment, staff training, conflict management and creating a welcoming working environment
Performance management of own team (objective setting, feedback, appraisals, incentives and bonuses, addressing poor performance).
Providing input to the performance management of others that formed part of the development and management processes
Contribute to business solutions, technical direction, MANCO.
Driving of business process innovation to enhance the value of delivery.

Education and Experience



Matric (Grade 12)
Tertiary degree (B. Engineer, B.Com, BSC)

Technical Skills:

8 to 12 years of relevant experience in a Software Development environment
