Indirect Tax VAT – Assistant Manager

You will support our teams from a diverse range of industries and sectors in navigating a dynamic and complex global tax environment.

Overview

We are seeking a talented self-driven individual to provide support and add depth to our Indirect Tax (VAT) team. The individual will be responsible for delivering high quality VAT audits and growing the business by networking and managing key relationships with our clients and our Assurance business. In addition, the successful applicant will from time to time execute on VAT health checks, due diligence reviews and general VAT consulting.

 

Key Responsibilities

You’ll be heavily involved at all stages of the project life cycle, making this a high-profile opportunity to take on a wide range of responsibilities and diversify your skills and experience. You will also work effectively as a member of a worldwide network of professional advisors, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress. You will be expected to conduct VAT audits and interpretation of the VAT Act and to be able to identify exposure in respect of VAT audits. You’ll also be the consultant and liaison with SARS & clients, providing opinions on VAT scenarios for clients

Ability to collaborate with a team of indirect tax professionals to combine diverse cross -border experience with local tax knowledge across a broad spectrum of industries
Ability to drafts technical opinions
Financial services experience
Exposure to controversy and appeals
An ability to actively maintain and develop distinct relations with clients and our Assurance business
An ability to network and grow the business by working closely with our Assurance business
An excellent communicator, analytical, organised, structured and result orientated approach to work
Current relevant knowledge of the VAT Act and relevant case law
Attention to detail
Strong planning and organizational skills
Ability to tolerate pressure
Self-starter with high energy levels
An ability to work with people and always maintain a work / people skills balance
An effective time manager, planner who is extremely client focused
Tenacious
Team player
To qualify for the role, you must have

CA(SA), relevant Legal Degree or a related field with strong academic credentials
3 – 5 years of experience
PC proficiency
Ideally, you’ll also have

MBA, Masters of Tax, JD and LLM a plus
