Job Description & Summary

A career in our Tax Compliance Services practice, within Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients meet and manage their tax obligations across unique but ever changing tax specialties. You’ll advise clients on their local and overseas tax affairs, while acting as a strategic consultant related to business analysis, managing indirect taxes, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions.

Our team helps our clients with compliance across all taxes, statutory accounting and complex tax reporting. You’ll focus on bookkeeping and monthly reporting, drafting, auditing and filing of local statutory financial statements, and transaction processing.

As a Manager, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy to execution. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Proactively assist in the management of a portfolio of clients, while reporting to Senior Managers and above
Be involved in the financial management of clients
Be actively involved in business development activities to help identify and research opportunities on new/existing clients
Contribute to the development of your own and team’s technical acumen
Develop strategies to solve complex technical challenges
Assist in the management and delivering of large projects
Train, coach and supervise staff
Keep up to date with local and national business and economic issues
Continue to develop internal relationships and your PwC brand
Principle accountabilities

Arranging compromise offers
Arranging of debt write-offs
Arranging special applications with SARS on behalf of clients
Attendance of ADR hearings
Completion of technical objections and appeals
Providing assistance/guidance to Tax staff when completing objections/appeals/other communications
Report writing, guidance on letters on various Tax and business related matters
Responding to varied client queries
Consultations with clients
Review of client work
Review of IT14SDs, occasionally
Review of objection and appeal letters
Review of mining returns
Technical explanations to Tax, Audit and Accounting staff on various Tax matters
Technical research
Monitoring and distribution of emails from SARS email account
Occasionally deal with PwC Durban issues from the Tax/PCS/Payroll/Audit teams
Review of assessment letters occasionally
Review of dividend returns
Review of supporting documents for IT and VAT occasionally before submission
Supervision and guidance to Tax staff on structuring dispute resolution documents
Tax clearance certificate applications, occasionally
Tax computation reviews
Completion of tax returns
Completion of donation forms
Review of donation forms
Review of payroll and advising on payroll issues occasionally
Allocation of tax computations
Allocation of tax returns
Approval of overtime and expense sheets
Attending to WIP provisions
Attending to debtor collections
Developing and monitoring budget for the department
Monitoring and reporting on Blue Sky targets
Attending billing related issues
Developing of processes to fairly evaluate staff performance according to the PC&D requirements
Development of systems to control the flow of tax returns/computations/submissions to and from the Tax department
Involved in recruitment for the department, including drafting of job specs
PC&D coach
Review of Audit staff competencies
Developing and monitoring systems to ensure that work is being attended to
Keeping up to date with legislative changes
Maintain professional standards with SAIPA
TBA journey
Completion of time and expense sheets






Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting
Post graduate qualification in Tax would be preferable
Preferred skills

Experience in dealing with SARS appointments
SARS e-Filing practical experience
Sound knowledge of the relevant Tax acts

SAIPA articles
5 years of experience in the Tax field
