As a Principal Bioinformatics Scientist, you will provide bioinformatics support for product research and development, as well as the marketing, sales and on-market product support teams. You will collaborate broadly to develop and apply informatics, data analytics, computational learning and novel algorithms to NGS and other genomics inventions, investigations and products.
Partners closely with R&D teams to provide bioinformatics expertise including experimental design, data collection, QC, algorithm design, analysis and visualization
Proposes and builds novel data analysis methods or algorithms as needed
Negotiates complex issues with peers and partners, promoting cohesive teamwork
Collaborates across the Software and Bioinformatics organization to drive innovation and achieve shared goals
Stays abreast of developments in NGS technologies, analytics and applications and shares knowledge and expertise with others
Follows best practices for documentation and reproducible research
Provides bioinformatics leadership and mentorship on project teams or subteams to solve business-relevant problems of moderate size risk and complexity
Presents technical reports or summaries and delivers presentations to diverse audiences, including project teams, other departments, collaborators, and customers
Assists on-market support teams in training and handling customer enquiries as needed
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and able to work within in a cross-functional team environment, leading and/or influencing when appropriate
Able to work independently with minimal supervision; effectively planning, prioritizing and executing work assignments, using discretion and independent judgment within broadly defined practices and policies
Experience with NGS data analysis e.g. WGS, WES, RNA-Seq, and with general Bioinformatics tools, e.g. sequence alignment, variant analysis and database queries
Proficient in applying coding and software development best practices in a scripting or programming language such as Python, JAVA, R, C++, etc
Experience using a workflow management system, e.g. Snakemake, Nextflow, etc on top of a job scheduler in a Linux high performance computing environment, with cloud computing experience being a plus
Experience with code version control, e.g. GitHub
Excellent written and verbal English communication and scientific presentation skills
A PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a relevant subject area plus 4+ years of direct related experience, or a relevant Masters degree with 7+ years related experience
High proficiency in Python, with JAVA, R and Agile methodology experience being a plus
Strong statististics skills, with data science and/or machine learning experience a plus
Experience developing and applying Bioinformatics methods/systems
Experience leading or working in interdisciplinary teams
