Temp: Electrical Engineer

 

 

Sappi Tugela Mill based in Mandini requires a Temp: Electrical Engineer for a fixed term period of 12 months to provide a cost effective, efficient and comprehensive central engineering service and support through-out the Mill. The main objectives are to establish standards, specifications and the enforcement of thee standards and specifications. Manage and control the major contractors providing a service to the Mill.

 

REPORTING to the Engineer: E/I

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages, selection, erection and maintenance of all electrical equipment at Tugela Mill, so as to maximise plant availability subject to time and budgetary constraints.
Set departmental standards and equipment specifications with respect to procurement, maintenance methods, documentation etc.
Liaises with production personnel with a view to providing an effective service on an ongoing basis.
Co-ordinates and develops resources with the intention of maximising the use thereof.
Manages contractors, suppliers and consultants to ensure safety and quality of workmanship and timeous completion of task.
Selects and places personnel.
Rationalises stores holding on an ongoing basis.
Compiles annual fixed cost, renewal, capital, overtime and manpower budgets.
Liaises with utilities (SATS, Eskom, GPO, Mandeni Local Council, ABB, SKF etc)
Manages personnel within a unionised environment.
Develops subordinates to ensure adequate trained and developed personnel for vacancies that arise by coaching, training and exposure to the different sections throughout the Mill. Identifies high flyers for further development.
Appraisals immediate sub-ordinates at least twice a year, giving realistic feedback, setting objectives and advices Engineering Manager on performance and recommends salary increases.
Manages the department professionally by keeping abreast of technical knowledge and section performance. Identifies trends and takes corrective action in the even of deviation from standards.
Ensures that his department complies in all respects with the relevant statutory requirements (OHS Act, Road Traffic Ordinance, etc) by implementing the necessary control measures and rectifying inadequacies and non-conformances.
Responsible for maintaining all rotables in Stores, ensuring that they are currently binned and easily accessible.
Manages the Centre of Excellence i.e TPM.
Assist the plant with minor projects i.e resolves problems with problematic equipment.
Manages the electrical forum.
Sets the planning standards for Mill.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
4 year Degree or B-Tech in Electrical Engineering
3-5 years experience within a similar position
GCC Preferred
