Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for a Senior Library Assistant position in the Information Resource Management unit in the library.
This role is to perform various administrative and technical duties and tasks in the Information Resource Management unit and other library sections, with main responsibilities related to all aspects of the acquisition of library materials in all formats.
The key performance areas of the incumbent include the following:
Acquisition of library materials, in all formats
Accessioning of items
Participate in collection development and collection management activities
Provide second-level support at designated services points
Perform tasks as assigned by the library directorate
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
Matric and five years’ relevant experience in an academic or comparable environment
A BLIS qualification or an equivalent qualification with one year’s relevant work experience.
Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes):
Understanding of library acquisition Operations
Knowledge of library management systems e.g. Alma and Primo
Experience in using databases and online catalogues
Good oral and written communication skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
The ability to work independently as well as in a team context
Good interpersonal relations.
