Role purpose
The Senior Specialist: Cloud Platform Engineer is based within the Technology Business Unit.


The role of the Senior Specialist: Cloud Platform Engineer is to be an individual contributor and subject matter expert who maintains and participates in the design and implementation of technology solutions.
In addition, you will collaborate within a team of technologists to produce enterprise scale solutions for our internal client needs, as well as work with the latest Amazon Web Services technologies around cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, and network security.

Your responsibilities will include
Conduct reviews on current and proposed application cloud architectures and design deliverables as a Cloud SME;
Enable resilience and high availability for numerous platforms, from bleeding-edge cloud applications to on-premise legacy environments;
Ensure full-stack software solutions are architected and delivered using industry-leading DevOps best practices and technologies;
Implement HA/DR, security, capacity, and compliance strategies for new and existing cloud platforms;
Harden virtual networks, firewalls, load balancers, and virtual machines;
Work with application development teams to select and utilize security tools, mitigate vulnerabilities, devise testing strategies and automate repeatable tasks;
Build, implement and optimize cloud infrastructure solutions for distributed systems on public cloud platforms;
Collaborate to define best practices and standards around DevOps and service resilience while also building reusable automation libraries / APIs that can be applied across the enterprise;
Managing the identification and mitigation of operational risk within the cloud services (SAAS, PAAS and IAAS), including monitoring vendor alerts and advisories;
The ideal candidate for this role will have

Matric / Grade 12 is essential
3-year Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent qualification is essential
Relevant AWS Certification’s preferable
At least 5 years relevant work experience including the following:
Infrastructure Engineering / Software Engineering / DevOps role, deploying and maintaining multi-tiered application architectures;
Hands-on experience with AWS services like CloudFormation (or Terraform), CodeBuild, Config, Systems Manager, ServiceCatalog,   Lambda, etc.;
Full-stack IT experience with Linux, Windows, network/firewall concepts, source control (BitBucket) and build/dependency management and continuous integration systems
Experience building automation using scripting languages like Bash/Powershell/Python;
Experience working and contributing to software applications; development/deployment/management processes in a SaaS model;


Core Competencies and knowledge:


Excellent analytical, technical, and problem solving skills, with high-levels of creativity

Excellent relationship building, teamwork, and collaboration skills that enables the provision of effective support and guidance across multiple DevOps teams
Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and GCP desirable
Strong time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple balls
Ability to quickly learn new platforms, languages, tools, and techniques as needed to meet project requirements.
This role requires healthy doses of initiative and the ability to remain flexible and responsive in a very dynamic environment
